| Introduction |
Continuous
Microfiltration (CMF) uses hallow fibre membranes. The membranes remove very fine
contaminants from liquid feeds. Filtrate quality is independent of changing quality
in the feed. CMF membranes have a diameter of approx. 650 .
They remove inorganic and biological particles down to 0.2
in size. A patented air backwash removes solids that are collected during
filtration. The result is stable flow over many years. |

Purity Water | | The
MEMCOR CMF system is utilised in the production of varying grades of water for
use in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and chemical industries, It will produce the
following specification from any feed source. Microbial count :
<10 cfu /100ml Suspended solids : < 1 mg / 1 mg/L Silt
Density Index : < 1 Turbidity : < 0.2 ntu Memtec
Limited has experience in the production of the following qualities of water :
BP, USP , Reagent, Electronic Grade (E-1), Potable , Pre-Reverse Osmosis ( reduction
of SDI), Pre-Ion Exchange ( bacteria and suspended solids removal), and process
cooling water. | |
| Process
Water | | High
volume cooling water for the power, petrochemical and resource industries now
require total suspended solids and colloidol particle removal to produce higher
thermal efficiencies and lower chemical utilisation in water treatment. CMF achieves
these objectives instantly and continuously 24 hours a day. |

| Industrial
Waste | | CMF
has been used successfully in many waste streams to concentrate contaminants for
reuse or removal of contaminates to allow filtrate to be recycled or discharged
into the environment, thus meeting increasingly tight statutory requirements.
Applications include coal dust, heavy metals, metal hydroxides, glass particles,
dairy waste, asbestos, BOD reduction, silica emulsions, suspended solids and many
others. Waste treatment continues to be an application where a self-cleaning membrane
system proves to be a cost effective investment while protecting the environment. |

Potable Water | | WHO
standards and domestic water quality standards are emphasizing the need to use
fine filtration to remove suspended solids, faecal bacteria, protozoa, cysts and
other organisms that cause public health problems. Many organisms resist traditional
forms of disinfection such as chemicals, UV or ozone where CMF's 0.2 micron membrane
virtually removes all of these organisms. Removing these biological contaminants
before they provide additional food for bacteria in reticulation systems and further
compromise water quality standards, CMF can successfully treat highly turbid water
( 500 NTU) and variable suspended levels of over 200mg/L, and produce potable
water to the highest international standards. CMF technology has also demonstrated
significant removal of precursors for THM(trihalomethanes) production which are
becoming the major concern of potable water supplies throughout the world. |
 | | The
CMF plant is routinely operated at turbidities of 100 NTU, and during storm events
raw water is over 200 NTU. Finished water turbidity is always 0.05 NTU or less |
